I built the full size Shrike
What modifications, if any, did you make to the design described in the build manual?
I took 1 1/4″ off the masik making an 11″ flat spot at the front of the cockpit.I used 5×5 sheets of 3 ply 1/8″ Baltic Birch I get locally for $11 a sheet.The deck is striped with cedar from local lumber stores
What is the weight of the finished kayak?
I figure it weighs close to 40 lbs.
How does the kayak perform on the water?
It was a little twitchy at first with the deep V hull, paddles great, I like how responsive it turns, nothing more than boat wakes to surf around here,great fun when you do catch a wake. Took it over to Chuck Millen’s swimming pool to practice rolling, He did it just great, I have yet to learn it , but I’ll keep with it. Wish I would have built the lower freeboard model for doing layback bracing etc.
