What model Shrike did you choose?
This was the prototype Shrike-Too derived from the original Shrike templates.
What modifications, if any, did you make to the design described in the Build Manual?
These are all included in the Shrike-Too build options in the download.
What is the weight of the finished kayak?
30lbs
Anything you wish you had done differently?
Add a few more Maroske deck fittings for deck lines and do them before I put the deck on. I got this right in the Shrike-R build.
Any tips you’d like to suggest to future builders?
Experiment with the deck beam (masik) height and cockpit size before you bond the deck on, you can get it to fit really well if you spend the time upfront and customize both to suit your body.
How does the kayak perform on the water?
Magically. I have paddled a Tahe Greenland for many years prior and vastly prefer the speed and responsiveness of the Shrike-Too. The rocker allows it to turn much better and the Shrike is faster as she tends not to ride up on her bow wave when paddled hard which is a failing of the Tahe design.
