Christine Cochran – Shrike Too

What model Shrike did you choose?

What modifications, if any, did you make to the design described in the Build Manual?
The masik is at 11.5 inches, I lowered the bow to cut down on wind-age not much about 1.5 inches. I rounded the bow and stern. (people complain about my other kayaks being to sharp) I put a recessed hatch in the front it is 6 inches and is not big enough so I will install a wooden hatch. The kayak is painted white and the top is fabric covered in epoxy the bottom is 4 oz. glass.

What is the weight of the finished kayak?
Total weight 35 lbs.

Anything you wish you had done differently?

Any tips you’d like to suggest to future builders?

How does the kayak perform on the water?
Ok hmm paddling it tracked very well! much better than I would have thought with out the skeg. I did have a slight quartering tail wind on the way back but it was very easy to correct. I have just had shoulder surgery 12 weeks ago s I didn’t roll it or do any sculling, but it feels really good, a little tippy to begin with but I hadn’t been in a kayak in 5 months. It settled right down after 5 mins. Thank you so much I feel I will get lots of enjoyment from this kayak. I plan on using it for the beach and rolling .
