Mike Holgate from UK

What Shrike model did you choose?
I decided to go for a Shrike with a keyhole cockpit, but with topsides reduced by 40mm. As a 90kg paddler I wanted this kayak to be a good roller and also a good day boat. 40mm reduction has turned out to be ideal – phew!

What modifications, if any, did you make to the design described in the build manual?
The deck was made in 3 sections to ease fitting. No skeg fitted.

What is the weight of the finished kayak?
The finished weight is 17.5kg

How does the kayak perform on the water?
I have paddled (and prefer) hard chine kayaks for many years and the Shrike feels very stable. Primary and secondary stabilities were far better than expected – a real pleasure to paddle in fact.
