David Robinson from New Zealand

What Shrike model did you choose?
I built the Shrike Too

What modifications, if any, did you make to the design described in the build manual?
Only minor modifications such as fitting a plywood platform as a seat low enough in the boat so that the centre of gravity wouldn’t be compromised. I used a skill saw to cut the long panels which gives sweeping curves that don’t need tidying up. I used galvanised lacing wire which is low cost and easy to find for holding the panels together. The only plywood I could get was 4mm three ply meranti , but I had no issues with putting the deck panels on. I used tingles on the inside joins for the hull panels and taped the outer joins. I put a layer of light fibreglass over the hull but not on the deck and made a paint finish. I did not incorporate a skeg.

What is the weight of the finished kayak?
Not sure of the weight but probably closer to 20kg

How does the kayak perform on the water?
Its a fast feeling boat and maintains a straight course very well in spite of not having any skeg arrangement,
